Which treatment is best for me?
As we age, our skin naturally loses elasticity and collagen, which can lead to wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. Fortunately, there are a variety of aesthetic treatments that can help to combat the signs of ageing and keep our skin looking youthful and radiant.
One of the most popular anti-aging treatments is Botox. Botox is a form of botulinum toxin that temporarily paralyses the muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines. It is most commonly used on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. Botox can be used to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, giving the face a more youthful appearance. However, I am a strong supporter of lower-face Botox. This is a more advanced area to treat but can bring wonderful results. Treating muscles to reduce the volume of gum we show (we show more as we age), reduced chin dimpling, and prevent a downturned mouth. These areas when treated will subtly lift the face, and therefore creates a more youthful appearance.
Another popular anti-aging treatment is dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are injectable gels that are used to add volume to the skin, filling in wrinkles and fine lines. They can also be used to enhance the cheeks and lips, giving the face a more youthful and lifted appearance. I generally recommend a ‘less is more’ approach with fillers. Use them to complement other treatments and the will offer great results. But don’t rely on them too heavily. I am a keen supporter of skin boosters such as Profhilo and bio-stimulating polynucleotides such as Nucleofill and Lumi Eyes. Often bespoke treatment is best for this, as I can select the best product for your needs, whether that is eyes or neck or hands, dehydration or dullness.
Chemical peels are also a popular anti-aging treatment. Chemical peels use a chemical solution to remove the damaged outer layers of skin, stimulating the production of new skin cells and collagen. This can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne, and other skin imperfections. Tiny areas of pigmentation and age spots are give aways to age. Improve these and our skin will ‘glow’ and appear younger and healthier. Remember chemical peels can be applied to hands, necks, elbows and knees. These are all areas where you wil show signs of ageing so don’t neglect them.
Microneedling is also an effective anti-aging treatment. It involves the use of a device with small needles to puncture the skin, triggering the body's natural healing process. As the skin heals, it produces collagen, which can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as improve the overall texture and tone of the skin.
Lastly, the most non-invasive way to fight aging is through a consistent skincare routine. This includes regular cleansing, exfoliation, and the use of sun protection and anti-aging products. This can be via home care or in-clinic facials. Care for your skin in between treatments and you will always get much better results.
It's important to keep in mind that no single treatment will stop the aging process, but a combination of treatments and skincare routine can help to slow it down and maintain a youthful appearance. It's always best to consult with a skincare professional to determine the best course of treatment for your individual needs and concerns.
