Rosacea
Rosacea is a skin condition that causes red patches on the skin & an increased appearance of blood vessels due to increased blood flow to the surface of the skin. It most commonly affects the face, in particular the nose and cheeks. For those affected by rosacea, it can cause some pain and itchiness as well as small red or white bumps alongside general irritation. It can occur on or around the eyes as well leaving the eyes dry, irritated and in some cases swollen.
There are various things that can trigger Rosacea such as age, sunlight, hormonal changes, stress, extreme weather conditions, alcohol, and spicy food. The main cause of Rosacea can be genetics or environmental factors but it is often not known.
Rosacea can be prevented by avoiding these triggers, especially sunlight and extreme stress, and weather conditions. It is also advised to avoid anything that can irritate the skin, strong chemical products or pore-clogging cosmetics, and any excessive, harsh rubbing on the skin. Medication can be prescribed for Rosacea or you can see a skin specialist for an advised course of treatment. Treatment for Rosacea often starts gently so as not to further aggravate the skin.
