Rosacea

Rosacea is a skin condition that causes a red ‘flush’ over the face, in particular the nose, cheeks, and chin & varies in severity from a light pink to deep red & bumpy to visible thread veins. It is more often seen in middle-aged women & will often come and go. Common triggers include coffee, alcohol, spicy food, hot baths, and sun exposure.

We are yet to fully understand rosacea, the most recent research supports nerve dysfunction within the blood vessels of the face which results in an immune response.

Rosacea can be a struggle for anyone living with it, it is not only hard to treat but often hard to disguise. When left untreated it can lead to more obvious permanent thread veins which often make the person look older than their years.

So how can we help suffers?

Firstly home care is a priority:

• Wear daily sunscreen.

• Avoid face scrubs

• Avoid essential oils

• Avoid fragranced face products

• Start a food diary, paying attention to common triggers such as coffee, spicy foods, alcohol.

• Visit a skin clinic that has had experience in treating rosacea.

So how do I treat it within my clinic?

Firstly, we would look at your home skincare & ensure there are no products that could be causing inflammation or sensitivity. I would look into building a regime using clinical-grade products from ranges such as Neostrata, Epionce & Meder. The sensitivity of the skin is thought to be closely related to microbiome changes, so prebiotics and probiotics-based products with a Meder Red-Apax facial is my hero treatment. It helps control Rosacea for the long term as opposed to temporary relief of symptoms.

Like all Meder Beauty Science professional treatments, Red-Apax includes 6 steps, all of them catering to special needs and characteristics of sensitive and damaged skin.

The facial starts with a gentle cleanse using Meder’s Net-Apax Prebiotic Cleansing Mask which utilises silver mallow & prebiotics to soothe & rebalance the skin to create a healthy microbiome & barrier function. After preparing the skin according to Meder Beauty dermatological protocol, Red-Apax concentrate and Red-Apax mask are applied, followed by Equa-Derm Cream, enriched with Agarikon extract with anti-inflammatory properties. Other innovative ingredients within the facial include centella asiatica extract, aloe vera juice extract, witch hazel, allantoin, panthenol, and ingredients that interact with skin receptors, such as albatrellus ovinus (mushroom) and polymnia sonchifolia (Yacon) extracts.

The recommended course of Red-Apax therapy is 5 treatments in 3–5 weeks.  The duration of treatment is 60 minutes. To maintain and prolong the achieved results, I recommend using Meder Red-Apax concentrate and sheet masks as home.
